Big second period lifts Rockets over T-birds

KENT, Wash. – Kelowna scored all four of its goals in the second period and then held on to beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 in a Western Hockey League game Sunday night.

Seattle led 1-0 after the first period on the 14th goal of the season by Chance Lund.

Kelowna tied it with a four-on-four goal by Damon Severson, his fifth of the season, at 3:55 of the second period.

Seattle regained the lead on the second goal of the season by Cason Machacek before Kelowna scored three goals, by Cody Chikie, Colton Sissons and Brett Lyon, to build a 4-2 lead.

Luke Lockhart scored his 10th goal of the season for Seattle at 3:19 of the third period to cut the lead to 4-3, but Kelowna held on to improve its record to 22-23-6. For Seattle, 18-28-2, it was its sixth straight loss at home.

Kelowna outshot Seattle 44-28 in the game and held the Thunderbirds scoreless on four power play tries.
