Big sink hole found under Calgary condo

City now trying to determine if the building is structurally sound

A condo had to be evacuated Friday night after a sink hole was discovered in the underground parking lot.

Calgary firefighters arrived to find the hole, measuring about four metres across and three metres deep, with a pickup truck on top of it.

The truck was removed and firefighters were able to check out the hole. They found a "visible connection" to the large construction site on the east side of this address, a city release says.

Building inspectors arrived on scene on 13th Avenue to assist with the inspection.

An evaluation by city engineers will have to be completed to determine whether the building is structurally sound.

The three-storey condo complex houses eight suites and13 occupants. They were evacuated after being let into their condos to gather essentials and pets.
