Police have seized a pile of weapons including assault rifles and a part of a missile launcher.
Calgary police say officers were called to a home on Briseois Drive Thursday afternoon to respond to a call about a threat with a firearm. They arrested a man seen leaving through a back door.
Once inside, officers discovered a total of 22 firearms including two AK-47 assault rifles, two
sawed-off shotguns, one AR-15 Colt assault rifle and part of an extendible, military-grade, anti-tank missile launcher.
Police did not say if the missile launcher was capable of firing a rocket.
Police also seized several homemade firearm silencers, a throwing star, baton, machete, bayonet, assorted high-capacity firearm magazines and ammunition for handguns, rifles and shotguns.
Police have charged a 46-year-old Calgary man with 64 offences including one count of uttering a
threat, 19 counts of possession of a unlicensed weapon, 19 counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, six counts of possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon with ammunition and 19 counts of unsafe storage of a firearm.
This investigation is continuing, and more charges may be pending. Police note investigators do not believe this case is gang related.
