‘Biggest car show in Alberta’ coming up

Pretty in Pink is a year-round term for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and this year is no different.

Tamara Collins, spokesperson for the Calgary office is excited for this summer’s events and told Metro they don’t only raise funds but much needed awareness, too.

“There are a lot of upcoming events and our biggest one is the Cool Cars Cruising For Cancer, which is the biggest car show in Alberta,” she said.

The car fundraising event brings people from all over with their cars and is set up at McMahon Stadium. All proceeds go towards the fight against breast cancer.

Calgarian Steve Maguire started the Cool Cars Cruising For Cancer fundraising event last year after his sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, Maguire told Metro.

“I wanted to do something for her in a positive way and I like cars so I thought I would get some guys and cars together to raise some awareness, because cancer affects everyone,” Maguire said.

The show turned out to be a huge event and now this year is expected to be bigger and better than ever, set to take place Aug. 23.

“I hope we double the amount of people from last year, which was over 500 in the rain. We’re hoping the weather co-operates this year,” Maguire added.

Collins is also looking forward to the Global Petroleum show in June, which is a large oil and gas show, and the foundation will have a booth set up.

“This is a really great opportunity for us to raise money but also awareness because there will be a lot of people tracking through the show,” Collins told Metro.
