When I was appointed as BILD Chair earlier this year, I made it my mission to reach out to all sectors of the membership and make sure that each group has an equal opportunity to addresses their issues to their association.
As I made my inaugural address back in January, I looked around the room and noticed a lack of diversity in the demographic within the audience.
There were barely any young members present, which became a concern to me as I began noticing a similar trend at subsequent events.
Younger members seemed less connected with their older colleagues, and were often left uninformed about industry events.
I wanted to reach out to this group to make sure their voices and ideas are expressed, without fear or intimidation from their older, more established colleagues. This is how the Young BILDers Committee was born.
This Committee is a vehicle to bring together younger members of the industry across the membership to focus on issues important to young BILD leaders. Its purpose is to better engage them in all aspects of Association activity, and to promote the benefits of being involved.
The Executive, led by co-chairs Sebastian Mizzi of Signature Developments and Fabrizio Cortellucci of Zancor Homes, consists of a group of young leaders under 40 years old who have volunteered their time to this initiative.
The group will be focussing on building a main roster of under-40 members who seek to enhance their participation in the Association by providing not only networking opportunities, but also educational seminars and mentoring partnerships.
The younger side of our membership likes to be entertained but it is also hungry to learn, so I expect our educational events to be even more popular than the social ones.
You can go out and have fun any weekend, but how often do you get a chance to attend a session specifically tailored for you to succeed and progress in your career?
The industry is changing, so we knew it was time for a fresh, new outlook on things. You, the homebuyers, will be glad we did!
