Biz grads put some sizzle into social networking

A new social networking website hopes to corner that segment of the Internet dedicated to college students and people in their 20s.

A new social networking website hopes to corner that segment of the Internet dedicated to college students and people in their 20s.

Unlike Facebook, which boasts 500 million online “friends,” Shizzlr.com brings together close friends who text-message their social plans to each other.

“Facebook is for every person you’ve met or have come across,” co-founder Nick Jaensch said in Hartford, Conn., where he took an MBA at the University of Connecticut. “Shizzlr is for your actual 20 friends and the people you hang out with.”

Jaensch, 24, and Keith Bessette, 31, also a business graduate, raised $200,000 from friends and family and $150,000 from Connecticut Innovations, the state’s venture investment agency.

A few thousand users already have signed up and Jaensch hopes that will grow to 50,000 by May.
