A thug snatched a black pug when his owner ducked into a small grocery market near Main Street SkyTrain Station, police said at a news conference Thursday.

The pug, Lukas, was left with his leash looped around a sandwich board outside the Main Food Stop at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. When the owner emerged a moment later, the dog was gone.

A person at a bus stop told the owner that a man with long blond hair had scooped up the small dog and ran off down an alleyway.

Const. Jana McGuinness said dog-nappings are relatively rare and that Lukas was wearing a blue dog tag and has a microchip implanted in his back.
