‘Black widow’ to face charges in Pictou

The woman known as the ‘Internet black widow,’ who will be released from a Florida jail shortly, will be facing charges in Pictou when she returns to Canada.

Melissa Friedrich, 73, killed her husband in 1991 and was convicted in 2005 of stealing from another man in Florida.

She’s due to be released from jail on Sunday and Florida officials plan to have her deported to Canada.

Once she returns, she’ll face fraud charges stemming from an investigation into pension fraud by the Pictou RCMP.

Cpl. Andrew Joyce confirmed Wednesday that an arrest warrant from the Pictou detachment has been issued for her arrest upon her return to Canada.
