Blaze murder-suicide

After three days of searching, a third body was discovered in the burned-out remains of an apartment on Green Belt Drive yesterday, where a “suspiciously fast” three-alarm fire had spread Saturday evening, gutting two apartments.

Police confirmed yesterday the fire is part of a double-murder suicide. As officials search for a motive, autopsies on all three bodies — a 41-year-old male, his 46-year-old wife and 70-year-old mother-in-law — will be conducted this week.

Initially, a three-year-old boy found at the scene Saturday night was believed to hold the key to the events that killed his parents and grandmother.

Neighbour Raouf Bayouk found the distraught child with a note in his hand. The note led investigators to a recorded message in a car belonging to Majid Israr Ahmad, 41. But the tape turned out to be a dead end.
Police have determined an accelerant was used to start the fire.
