Halifax Regional Police say a fire that forced 30 people to flee their apartments in a Dartmouth building early yesterday morning is believed to be suspicious.

No one was hurt in the blaze that broke out shortly before 1 a.m. at 88 Queen St., but police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said based on preliminary investigation the cause of the fire is “deemed suspicious.”

The fire began and was contained to a second-floor living room apartment. The fire gutted that one apartment and caused extensive smoke and water damage to some others.

The Canadian Red Cross says emergency motel accommodations were provided for nine tenants.
