Album: Blue Lights on the Runway
Label: Yep Roc/Outside
Rating: ** 1/2
It’s hard to understand why Irish trio Bell X1 have a diehard following. Their middling rock calls to mind a less mainstream Coldplay or a Radiohead without all the good stuff. Their new disc is definitely an improvement over the banal Flock, but it’s not much better. Sweeping electro sounds, high pitched vocals and a mundane keyboard jam on Amelia offer nothing new to Brit-obsessed music fans. They’re definitely better and more indie sounding than the Fray or even Chris Martin and co., but that’s not saying much.
