Boat show a ‘sure sign of spring’: Organizer

Organizers of the Edmonton Boat and Sportsmen’s Show have been waiting for this day to come.

Now that renovations are complete at the Edmonton Expo Centre, the show can take over the entire 500,000 square feet of space.

“The Edmonton market continues to thrive, grow and expand,” said Laurie Paetz, show manager. “Let’s face it, lake country is here (and) there are a lot of outdoor enthusiasts in the Edmonton area. This year we’re bigger than ever.”

The Boat and Sportsmen’s Show will take over all seven halls at the Expo Centre, four of which will be entirely marine-product related.

“Pretty much everything from personal watercraft, right up to the full wakeboard boat, fishing boat, and river-style cruisers,” Paetz said. “We even have a few sailboats. You name it, it will be on site.”

Boats are only one component of the show; there’s also a full sportsmen aspect. One full hall, 16,000 square feet, will be dedicated to off-road products.

“Consumer shows are great,” Paetz said “But what really sets a show apart are the action attractions.”

Brand new to the Edmonton show will be the DockDogs world championship qualifiers.

Anyone can bring their dog down and see how far Fido can leap into a 26,000-gallon pool of water.

The Mantracker, Terry Grant, will be at the show meeting fans along with several other outdoor experts.

Paetz said she’s expecting about 42,000 people to take in the show between March 18 and 21.

“This definitely is a sure sign of spring,” Paetz said. “Edmontonians really look forward to this show. Our wonderful Canadian winters, everyone’s ready for it to be done. This is the show that launches everyone into spring, and summer is right around the corner.”

Advance tickets are available through Ticketmaster or you can buy them at the door.
