Boat show goes to the birds, and the dogs

Dogs swimming in clear water, kids casting their first line and boats as far as the eye can see.

No, it’s not quite cabin season, but it is right around the corner and Edmontonians are getting a head start this weekend at the Edmonton Boat and Sportmen’s Show at the Expo Centre.

“The first couple of hours have gone great,” said Heather Moore, a spokesperson for the show.

“People are happy and they’re coming out in droves to see all the great features we have here.”

The biggest feature of the show has to be the more than $15-million worth of marine and recreation equipment on display. But a close second goes to the Alberta Birds of Prey exhibit and the DockDogs dog-jumping competition.

“Animals are always popular,” Moore said “The birds and the dogs always draw a huge crowd.”

The show started Thursday and runs all weekend. Doors open at noon on Friday and stay open until 9 p.m. Saturday is 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door.
