Boater’s body found after vessel capsizes

The body of a 27-year-old Cape Breton man who went into the water afterthe speedboat he was in capsized near the Mira Boat Club has beenrecovered.

The body of a 27-year-old Cape Breton man who went into the water after the speedboat he was in capsized near the Mira Boat Club has been recovered.

Police and firefighters responded to the boat club around 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon after witnesses said the boat went underwater about 300 feet from shore. His body was found around 9 a.m. yesterday near the Mira Boat Club.

A second man who was in the boat was able to swim to shore. Efforts to find the missing boater — who has been identified as Cyril Hardy of Howie Centre — included the Cape Breton Ground Search and Rescue, the Cape Breton Regional Police dive team and the Canadian Coast Guard.
