Body found after standoff in Newfoundland

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the body of a male was found in Seal Cove on Tuesday after police responded to a report that a man was barricaded in a house.

Police say they received a call that a man had barricaded himself in the house at 10:45 a.m.

The police department issued a news release more than six hours later saying a body was found at the rear of the property during a search by officers.

Police say attempts to contact the man in the house were unsuccessful and foul play is not suspected in the death.

The main road in Seal Cove was closed to traffic during the incident.

A spokesman for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary did not return a message seeking comment.
