Body found near truck

Thoughts and prayers are pouring in for an Airdrie family after searchers found a body near a missing man’s truck in Banff National Park.

Searchers found a body just two kilometres from where University of Alberta student Jordan Darda parked his truck near the Pinto Lake trailhead, according to Mark Ledwidge, a Parks Canada spokesman.

Darda’s cousin Shaun Shepansky has been updating information to hundreds of members of the “Where is Jordan Darda” Facebook page but said Thursday his family “would need time to process the shocking news.”

Well-wishers spent the day leaving messages of hope and prayers for Darda and his family.

Const. Francine Hennelly said more than 30 people, two dog teams and a helicopter participated in the search for Darda in the rugged area while rain came down and temperatures plunged to 5 C during the day.

“The body has not been identified and the cause of the death is unknown. At this time there is no indication of foul play,” she said.

Officials say there was no note found at the young man’s truck.
