Boston Diner en Blanc takes over Boston City Hall Plaza on Sunday

For the past five years, sophisticated foodies have celebrated Boston Diner en Blanc with an elegant flash-mob style dinner party, and this year was no different.

On Sunday night, nearly 1,400 diners all dressed in white headed to the top secret location, which ended up being Boston City Hall Plaza, to celebrate the five-year anniversary of Boston Diner en Blanc.

Le Diner en Blanc, which translates to White Dinner, has acquired a cult following in recent years, and is now held in over 70 cities worldwide. The first Diner en Blanc was held in 1998 in Paris’ Parc de Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne.

As in recent years, attendees of the Boston Diner en Blanc were asked to wear all white attire and bring their own white chairs, tables and dinnerware. They weren’t told where the party would take place until shortly before the event. This year’s guests enjoyed dinner, dancing, and entertainment by Boston-based DJ Ryan Brown, who also performed at last year’s celebration on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway.

New York City is planning to hold its own Diner en Blanc on Sept. 17. Last year, over 5,000 guests attended that festive pop-up dinner.
