Bow River Flow festival set for Sunday

Vendors and amplified music won’t be found at the Bow River Flow festival, happening Sunday, as they are promoting themselves as a “participatory event.”

Gerald Wheately, organizer of the festival, said they want people to leave feeling they have participated in something unique.

“We want people to do more than just walk the site,” said Wheately.

This will happen by having events and stations including tai chi, kids zone, fitness and bike zones.

The festival occurs after much controversy surrounding the idea to close down two lanes of Memorial Drive.

Wheately said those who first opposed the closure are now coming around and even participating, including Kensington business and Ald. Ric McIver.

Wheately hopes the festivals grows until the point where Memorial Drive is regularly used as a pedestrian mall.

“Memorial is getting a huge face life and it’s iconic in terms of the Bow River that flows through the middle of the city.”

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 10th Street to 3rd Street N.W.
