Amber Bowerman had a lot to look forward to.
Friends and colleagues of the happy-go-lucky, up-and-coming journalist found dead in the basement suite of the Dalhart Hill home Wednesday along with four members of the Lall family said she was a respected and well-liked face around campus and there were no indications that she may have been in a dangerous situation.
“On top of it all, it’s so disappointing that someone so dedicated to their craft, so personable, will never get a real chance to apply that any more,” said SAIT Student’s Association president David Jones.
Bowerman, a freelance journalist and publication editor of SAIT newspaper The Weal, who graduated from the journalism program in 2001, was an “amazing, fun loving, happy and caring individual,” Jones said.
“She was the type of person who you could talk to for five minutes and become friends with immediately,” said Jones, adding her sudden death sent shockwaves through the SAIT community that continue to ripple in spite of counselling services.
One friend, who worked alongside Bowerman for two years at the student newspaper, said it seemed unfathomable that she could be in this situation, as it’s something he never would have expected and she never indicated any sort of trouble brewing on the home front.
“It didn’t matter what kind of day she was having, she’d put that aside for the greater good,” he said.
