A three-year-old boy suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a minivan in Regent Park yesterday afternoon.
The child, his mother and older sister were crossing Shuter Street at a crosswalk when a westbound Dodge Caravan hit the boy, tossing him about 13 metres.
The boy was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children with neck, head and collarbone injuries around 2:45 p.m. The injuries were originally thought to be life-threatening, but police said later it appears that’s not the case.
Police spokesperson Const. Tony Vella said based on preliminary information the overhead crosswalk lights were flashing.
“One thing that is beneficial is that the driver stayed. Sometimes, for whatever reason, people panic and leave the scene,” Vella said.
The investigation continues.
