Brace yourself: First big snowfall coming

Get ready for the first big snowfall of the year.

Around up to 20 cm of snow is expected to start falling around 3 a.m. tomorrow. Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson said the snow should come down heavy until late tonight, then ease up for the next couple of days with a light but steady snowfall until Friday.

The upside to the snowstorm is that temperatures should be a bit warmer over the next few days, hovering around -2 C.

However, Coulson warned that warm weather does bring a risk of ice pellets and freezing rain, but that is more likely to happen south of Ottawa.

“It’s of note for people that may be travelling tomorrow. If they do head south of Ottawa, they may encounter some mixed precipitation or freezing rain,” he said.
