All the ways to watch Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate hearing

Brett Kavanaugh hearing

The Brett Kavanaugh hearing is scheduled for Thursday, September 27 — and the public will get to watch the SCOTUS nominee and his accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Ford, a Palo Alto University pyschology professor, alleges that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a high school party back in 1982. He allegedly “pinned her to a bed on her back and groped her over her clothes.”

Both will face five minutes of questioning from each Committee member, or, as CNN reports, a lawyer if senators so choose — which is what the 11 Republican members have planned.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) hired Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell, a specialist in sex crimes, to help administer questioning.

Ford will testify first, and a slew of evidence — such as Kavanaugh’s old calendar from the time of the alleged assault — has been submitted to Senate Investigators.

The college professor is not alone in her accounts.

Two other women, Debroah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick, have accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. Swetnick is represented by Michael Avenatti, attorney for Stormy Daniels in her case against President Trump.

Avenatti revealed his client’s identity and released a sworn affidavit, sent to the Judiciary Committee, on Wednesday. Sen. Grassley announced that Swetnick’s allegations were being investigated, but the Brett Kavanaugh hearing would proceed.

“Tomorrow is very important,” he told reporters.

Democratic members of the Committee called for immediate withdrawal of Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination.

“Judge Kavanaugh is being considered for a promotion,” reads a statement signed by all 10 Committee Democrats. “He is asking for a lifetime appointment to the nation’s highest court where he will have the opportunity to rule on matters that will impact Americans for decades. The standard of character and fitness for a position on the nation’s highest court must be higher than this.”

Trump told reporters Wednesday evening that Kavanaugh is one of the “highest quality people” he’s ever met, adding of the three who alleged sexual misconduct: “What they’ve done to this man is incredible.” However, he implied that he might be swayed in his opinion.
