Bridal shows can be wealth of information

For all the lucky ladies getting married, wedding shows are a great place to start planning the big day.

“It’s a great place to source suppliers under one roof,” says Dina Vieira, wedding planner and president of Chic Weddings.

Here are some upcoming wedding shows in the area:

• The Total Wedding Show:
With about 350 exhibitors, this show not only lets you shop, but you can attend 15-minute seminars from professionals in the industry. Topics range from booking the right DJ to taking care of your skin to saving money. Runs to Jan. 18 at the International Centre.

• The National Bridal Show:
Brides-to-be get in free if they register at www.nationalbridalshow.com/spring. There will be about 200 exhibitors, a fashion show and a bridal gown sale. Wedding SOS will also be interviewing newlyweds-to-be to audition for the show. Runs Jan. 23-25 at the Direct Energy Centre.

Other bridal shows include Canada’s Bridal Show, which takes place biannually, and The Wedding Show at the Carlu, which takes place every January. This year, Canada’s Bridal Show featured more than 400 exhibitors and a fashion show. The Wedding Show, which is aimed at brides who are 28 and older, features the Wedding Co. candy store — a booth for DIY ideas.

Vieira suggests brides do some research and buy wedding magazines before attending the shows.

She also recommends brides attend at least two major shows.

“Ask a lot of questions,” she says. “(Brides) need to feel good about their decisions.”
