Brides hunt for bargains

Over 1,500 future brides took to the fall’s hottest bridal fair yesterday in search of that perfect dress and final touches for their weddings.

Most brides-to-be were drawn to the wedding gown sale and many walked out with their dream dresses, but even almost-brides found themselves trying dresses on, including 18-year-old Nicole Abbott.

“I was coming here for work, but I couldn’t help but try this dress on. My boyfriend will wonder why I was trying dresses on,” she said.

Abbott and her boyfriend are planning to marry in 2012, though she says it’s not official yet.

“But I couldn’t help but try the dress on, even though I know it’s early.”

Cyrena Heerschap was also searching for the perfect dress but wasn’t having as much luck.

“But it’s because I just don’t know what I want. I’m looking at everything for ideas,” she said.

Calgary Bridal Fair co-organizer Lenora Kingcott said many women flock to the wedding gown sale for the great prices.

“It`s always a big draw because they are such great prices and basically it`s just clearing this year`s stock for next year`s but there are a lot of great dresses to be found,” Kingcott said.

This year, she added, there was room for 1,000 people to attend the popular fashion shows.

“Everybody loves to see what is new and hot for next year.”
