Over 1,000 commuters now have the luxury of parking for free at one of two Calgary Transit bus park-and-ride lots in the city’s southeast.

Calgary Transit opened the two new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lots yesterday and expect the added convenience to encourage even more commuters from the city’s southeast to use the service.

“We already have approximately 2,000 people using the 302 route each day and we suspect the usage may increase,” said transit spokesperson Ron Collins. “There is certainly an added convenience for our users and they will just be able to park and hop the bus.”

Parking in both lots will remain free, said Collins.

The lots will also be monitored by peace officers, including a mountain bike unit.

New Brighton resident Christy Regan said she is excited about the new lots.

“It’s a bit of a walk for me, so the free parking lot is definitely a draw.”
