Budget party looks

Save your beauty pennies, ladies — you don’t have to spend a lotta cash to look gorgeous this get-together season.

If the models at our recent Montreal and Toronto fashion weeks can look flawless with drugstore beauty brands — CoverGirl and L’Oréal Paris are respective show beauty sponsors — so can you. In fact, we can tell you exactly what to use for each of these makeup looks because we got it straight from each show’s beauty pro.

The Smoky Eye

Eve Gravel, Montreal Fashion Week

To get this edgy look designed by Catherine Laniel, Montreal Fashion Week’s Creative Director of Makeup, start with CoverGirl TruConceal Concealer ($8.99) and TruBlend MicroMinerals ($13.99).

Using the CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Eye Shadows in Shimmering Sands ($6.99), highlight the inner corners of eyes with the lightest shade, sweep the entire lid with the medium shadow, and emphasize the crease with the darkest.

Line upper and lower lashlines with Outlast All-Day Smoothwear Eye Liner in Onyx ($8.99) and top with Eye Enhancers Eye Shadow ($5.99) in Tapestry Taupe to smudge the line and further define the outer vee of the creases and lids. Curl lashes and apply LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara in Very Black ($9.49). Warm cheeks with TruCheeks Blush No. 4 ($8.99) and finish with TruShine Lipcolor ($9.49) in Coral Shine and Wetslicks Amazemint Lipgloss in No Care Bare ($6.99) on lips.

The Red Lip
David Dixon, LG Fashion Week, Beauty by L’Oréal Fashion

Apply TruMatch concealer ($11.49), foundation and powder ($16.49 each) — they’re what Eddie Maleterre, official makeup artist for L’Oréal Paris in Canada/Artistic Director for LG Fashion Week in Toronto, uses to perfect model complexions. Sweep lids from lashes to brow with L’Oréal Wear Infinité Eye Shadow ($6.99) in Matte Seashell.

Next, from the Wear Infinité Eye Shadow Quad in Earthscape ($10.95), intensify the crease with the medium shade of shadow, then line upper lashlines with the darkest shade.

Define brows using the Earthscape shade that best matches your hair colour. Curl lashes and apply Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara ($13.99).

Sculpt cheekbones with TruMatch Blush ($15.49) in Bare Honey, dust apples of cheeks with TruMatch Blush in Baby Blossom, and highlight tops of cheeks with Wear Infinité shadow in Morning Light. Apply Color Riche Star Secrets Lipstick in Penelope’s Red ($12.49), and lightly trace the lip outline as well as over lipstick with Crayon Petite Automatic Lipliner in Reds ($11.49).

Winged Liner
Annie 50, Montreal Fashion Week

As with Laniel’s first Montreal look, apply concealer and foundation. Using CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Eye Shadows in Café au Lait, put the lightest shade on inner corners and on brow bones, medium shade all over the lid, darkest shade in the crease.

To make sure you get a lifted look instead of a droopy-eye effect, Laniel advises lining the lower lashlines first from the inner corner to outer, with Outlast All-Day Smoothwear Liner in Onyx, extending the line past the corner.

From that outer corner point, switch direction with your pencil and follow your upper lashline from the outer corner toward the inner corner of the lid.

Then trace over the pencil liner on upper lids with CoverGirl LineExact Liquid Liner in Very Black ($6.99). Curl lashes and apply mascara, sculpt cheeks with TruCheeks Trio 3, and apply TruShine Lipcolor in Nude Shine followed by Wetslicks Amazemint Lipgloss in Freedom of Peach.
