Buildings evacuated after train derails

Several businesses, hotels and a Canmore high school were evacuated as a precaution Monday morning after six CP Rail cars left the track in the Alberta mountain town.

Two cars were also overturned, though it’s believed there is no apparent leakage of contents, according to an RCMP release.

CP Rail, the Canmore Fire Department and Canmore RCMP personnel are trying to positively identify the contents of the overturned cars.

The area of the derailment has been closed off to traffic and the public while the investigation continues.
