The Spokane Chiefs are headed to the Memorial Cup final with the help of the Belleville Bulls last night.
The Bulls’ 6-3 win over the Gatineau Olympiques helped the Chiefs clinch top spot and a berth in Sunday’s final.
Belleville’s forward Shawn Matthias, playing in his third game since returning from a two-month long absence due to illness, tipped in a point shot breaking a late third period 3-3 tie.
Keaton Turkiewicz and Nigel Williams scored later in the period to secure the victory.
With the win, Belleville (1-1), can do no worse than Thursday’s tie-breaker game, which would only happen if Gatineau (0-2) beats Spokane tonight and the Bulls lose to Kitchener tomorrow.
