Burn victim Robin Tomah of Millbrook has been awarded a monetary judgment against her two attackers.
The decision by Nova Scotia Supreme Court Judge Douglas MacLellan, which awards more than $400,000, was released yesterday, following a civil lawsuit held in October against JoAnne Sylliboy and Vincent Bezanson.
Tomah, 43, had sought a judgment amount of $727,572 in general, specific and aggravated damages, as well as loss of income, interest costs and other relief as deemed warranted by the court for injuries suffered during a violent attack in August 2001 that resulted in third-degree burns to her upper body.
Corrective measures included many skin grafts and other surgeries. In the years since the attack, Tomah has endured 18 operations, including six on one hand to repair damage to a little finger that remains deformed.
