Burnaby students, 18, killed in crash

Two 18-year-old Burnaby students were killed after their car hit a pole and rolled over, the RCMP?have announced.

The two males were driving along Canada Way and 13th Avenue in Burnaby on Thursday night when the driver lost control.

Although the victims’ names have not been released by police, a Facebook group has been started for high school seniors Dyuzhan Abdul Hafiz and Sunil Afzali.

Hafiz and Afzali attended Byrne Creek Secondary School and became close friends. They were both active in sports and loved cars. Friends and well-wishers from the Facebook group, which has attracted more than 1,400 members, said the two were inseparable and enjoyed everything about life.

Witnesses said the car weaved in and out of traffic before the crash. One of the victims died at the scene while the other died in hospital. Police continue to investigate the crash.
