Burned man was targeted, police say

A man whose charred remains were found inside a burning car in a residential South Burnaby neighbourhood was the victim of a targeted homicide, police said yesterday.

The 25-year-old man was identified through dental records and tips from the public. Police are not releasing his identity at the request of his family.

Before 4 a.m. on Thursday, police and firefighters were called to a car fire in the 5600 block of Clinton Avenue. The silver sedan was burning in the middle of the street at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Plum Street, adjacent to Clinton Elementary School.

Fire personnel discovered the body after the fire was put out. Police were at the scene of the incident for more than a day.
