The Catholic School Board and police launched an investigation yesterday after getting word from a family that their six-year-old daughter “was inappropriately touched” by her female school bus driver.

Lori Nagy, a spokeswoman with the school board, says the incident was “not sexual in nature.”

The woman, one of five drivers employed at R.L. Smith Transportation Inc., is now suspended.
The company is one of five contracted by the school board, Nagy said. The bus company could not be reached for comment.

“The company is very concerned, as we are, about this, and that is why they took the appropriate actions to suspend the driver,” said Nagy.

The noon-hour bus was carrying five to six students, Nagy said.

Staff at St. Angela Elementary School where the girl attends kindergarten sent letters home to parents yesterday after finding out about the complaint.
