I would like to respond to the bus driver who wrote a few days ago saying that he felt it was unsafe for bus drivers to call out the names of bus stops, as it takes their concentration away from driving.
I find this excuse ridiculous. I’ve seen bus drivers talk on their cell phones while driving, even though it’s in breach of OC Transpo rules and regulations. I’ve observed drivers reach for water bottles, cups of coffee, and lunch bags while driving. I’ve even observed a driver spread a newspaper on the steering wheel while driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
I feel all these behaviours are more dangerous than reaching for a microphone and calling out bus stops. It would be a great customer service not only for people who are visually impaired, but also for tourists and anyone else not familiar with certain bus routes.
I think it is ridiculous that OC Transpo is raising fares again. This has got to be one of the most expensive cities in North America to take the bus.
Why are cities that are larger and smaller than Ottawa paying less for public transit? Also, in all of my travels, Ottawa has the highest wait time for buses in every city which I have visited.
We pay so much for such poor service. Ridiculous.
