Buses start sporting atheist ads just as Christians celebrate Easter

After some city councillors initially tried to block the atheist ads, the controversial campaign launched quietly on Tuesday.

OTTAWA — Just in time for Easter, one of the holiest days on the Christian calendar, some Ottawa transit buses are declaring “There’s probably no God ...”

After some city councillors initially tried to block the atheist ads, the controversial campaign launched quietly on Tuesday.

It features banners with large block letters in pink, red and orange displayed on the exterior of some OC Transpo buses.

The city couldn’t confirm how many advertisements will run or which routes will feature the slogan, which continues: “... Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

A spokesman for the Freethought Association of Canada calls it a “victory for free speech.”

Similar ads have already gone up on buses in Toronto and Calgary, with decisions pending in Halifax and Vancouver.
