Busy weekend for Mounties

Halifax RCMP say they dealt with 14 separate incidents involving impaired drivers over the weekend, most during police conducted checkpoints.

“For a weekend, I’d say that’s high,” said Cpl. Scott MacRae. “As a police agency, we’re definitely concerned.”

In one instance, police say a 28-year-old attempted to avoid a checkpoint on Highway 7 and was subsequently stopped for being impaired behind the wheel.

Another incident allegedly saw a 23-year-old male driver hit the concrete median on Highway 101 near Sackville. Police say that driver was also impaired.

Halifax Regional Police made six impaired driving arrests over the weekend — which they call a normal figure.
