Cabbie shot unknowingly

A cabbie who was standing by his taxi Monday night near 119 Avenue and 129 Street reportedly didn’t know he had a bullet in him until he arrived in hospital a short time later, police said.

Police say the man felt a sharp pain while he was standing outside of his vehicle sometime around 10 p.m. and that he needed a friend to help him get to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

“At this point, all we know is that he knew he was injured before arriving in hospital,” said police spokeswoman Patricia Thenu.

The man didn’t hear the gunshot, according to an earlier report on a local radio station.

He was treated in hospital with a wound in his shoulder, police said.

City cops conducted door-to-door interviews in the neighbourhood to continue with their investigation, but it is still unclear if the shooting was random or deliberate, police said.

No witnesses have come forward to give detectives any information, police said.
