Three children from Metro Vancouver have been killed in a cabin fire on Shuswap Lake, RCMP announced on Thursday.
Emergency crews in Salmon Arm were called to the cottage around 2 a.m., and learned that a 14-year-old boy, his 10-year-old sister and their 14-year-old female cousin had been sleeping in the burning building.
Other family members were staying in adjacent detached cabins.
“One of the parents suffered minor injuries received in attempts to rescue the children,” said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.
“Officers … have secured the scene and remain on site, and are awaiting the arrival of several intra-agency specialist teams to conduct further examination,” he said.
The names of the children have not been released.
It’s unclear how the fire started.
