Calgary alderman ready to forge ahead with airport tunnel cost queries

After months of petitioning in favour of the airport tunnel, Ald. Jim
Stevenson said he believes he has the votes to see his motion passed
today.

Stevenson is asking that council approve his motion so that
administration can begin looking into exact costs.

“This motion will than direct administration to keep working with the
airport authority to determine what steps have to be taken and how
much money it will actually cost to do compared to leaving it until
later,” he said.
“I think that we’ll have quite a few more than eight
votes.”

Cat Wood, spokesperson for Citizens Opposed to the Airport Tunnel,
said this is what they were anticipating however; they won’t stop
advocating against the project.

“This is really about starting a conversation about this issue. It’s
really important to us that if this is to proceed that as many people
as possible are aware of what the implications of building the airport
tunnel are,” said Wood.

The notice of motion will come to council later this afternoon.
