Calgary looks into poaching local recruits

Students at Grant MacEwan College got a visit from Calgary police yesterday.

The Calgary Police Service was looking for a few good men and women in both Edmonton and Saskatoon yesterday in order to fill 200 new positions by the end of the year.

“It’s about getting the message out to as many people across the province as possible that we’re hiring,” Staff Sgt. Craig Skelton, head of the Calgary Police Service recruiting unit, said.

Skelton said Grant MacEwan is an especially important place to recruit because of the police studies program offered there.

“We want them to know that there are job opportunities when they get out,” Skelton said, mentioning their competitive salaries.
