Homicide investigators were called to a northwest Calgary home after a woman was found Saturday beneath the basement stairs.
Police were initially called to a home in the 300 block of Varsity Estates Grove NW on Saturday shortly after 2 p.m. to respond to a missing person’s complaint, according to police. A 61-year-old woman was reported missing from the home, and police conducted a search of the area and the residence.
A larger scale search was being organized around 6:30 p.m. when family members found the missing woman in the residence under the basement stairs.
Calgary EMS attended to the woman on scene and transported her to Foothills Medical Centre where she later succumbed to injuries.
District 7 officers and the Homicide Unit are conducting the investigation. More details are expected later Sunday afternoon.
