Calgary police probe suspicious death of teenager

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 17-year-old girl in a southwest home and confirmed it resulted in the second call to the home in one day.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Monday, police received a check-the-welfare call to the home in the 800 block of Canaveral Crescent SW. The teen was pronounced dead on the scene.

Neighbours reported witnessing a man taken out of the home on a stretcher a few hours earlier, and police spokesperson Kevin Brookwell confirmed EMS transported someone from the home to hospital.

Neighbour Tasha Walsh said the home houses the McInnes family, which consists of a mother, father, two sisters and a brother.

“They were a nice and quiet family. The girls were great and came over to babysit or shovel the sidewalks sometimes. This is shocking, it’s really sad,” she told Metro.

Friends and family of Brittney McInnes wrote messages to her yesterday as a Facebook tribute popped up, including “RIP Brittney, I’ll raise a glass for you tonight” and “I can’t believe that someone could do that to you.”

No one has been charged yet and police continue to speak with the family.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.
