Some of the country’s best young idols come from Calgary and they were out in full force yesterday, according to Canadian Idol’s executive producer.
After setting a record with more than 1,000 Canadian Idol hopefuls showing up to Sunridge Mall over the weekend, John Brunton told Metro that Calgary "rocks."
"I don’t know what it is about Calgary, but Alberta in general produces some of the best singers we’ve seen. It’s phenomenal," Brunton said.
"I’ve seen five or six people who could easily make it to the top 22 and from there who knows how many in the top ten."
One lucky teen idol hopeful came all the way from Moose Jaw, Sask. for his chance to perform for the judges today and passed with flying colours, receiving both a yellow and blue ticket.
"I sang Feeling Good by Michael Buble and the lady working with me really helped me. I did Canadian Idol once before and made it to the judges and thought I could do at least that again this year," 19-year-old Stephen Flegel told Metro.
The contestants will be performing for their chance to head to Toronto for their shot at the Idol crown.
