Calgary teens killed in Washington state car crash

A weekend car wreck in Washington state has claimed the life of two 18-year-olds from Calgary.

Washington state troopers confirmed Calgarians Kylie Doxtater and Mikelle Hendrickson were killed Sunday when the car they were in veered off State Route 8 at a high rate of speed.

Also seriously injured in the crash were Calgarians Benjamin Harms and Lena Elliot.

State troopers said they believe drugs played a factor in the crash.

Before Harms was taken to hospital, he was placed under arrest for two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of assault, the state troopers said.

“Both (Doxtater and Hendrickson) were absolutely amazing people and I can’t imagine a world without them,” said David Howe, Hendrickson’s former boyfriend.

“(Hendrickson) taught me how important it is to live life in the moment, to be open.”

According to friends, the group was heading home from a road trip to Tijuana, Mexico.

“I could always rely on her to bring the energy of the group up, or to bring comedy to situations at their worst,” said Steven Hayes, Doxtater’s drama classmate.

Both Doxtater and Hendrickson had recently graduated from Bowness High School.
