Calgary to travellers: ‘You’re very welcome’

The welcome mat was literally rolled out yesterday during the launch of the new Tourism Calgary website.

Partnering with the Calgary Hotel Association, Tourism Calgary unveiled visitcalgary.com and the new ‘You’re Very Welcome’ slogan and campaign.

“Tourism is increasingly important to our quality of life, our economy and our sense of place,” said Tourism Calgary President Randy Williams. With the high season approaching, the city is preparing for visitors from Alberta and around the world, he said.

According to Calgary Hotel Association Vice President Leanne Shaw-Brotherston, over five million visitors to the city annually contribute over $1 billion tourist dollars to the local economy. For this reason, the new campaign is vital, she said.

The “sophisticated but friendly” website is easy to navigate, offering visitors the option to book hotel and attraction packages in one transaction, said Shaw-Brotherston.

The new slogan is a huge step forward for Calgary’s tourism industry said Tourism Calgary Chair George Brookman. “It’s memorable and catchy,” he said. “It’s not a brand.”

The website will soon feature social media, mobile applications and virtual tours.
