Calgary Zoo welcomes new tiger

Brought in from New York via FedEx, Baikal, a male Siberian tiger is settling into his new home at the Calgary Zoo.

Siberian tigers are considered endangered by International Union of Conservation for Nature, (IUCN); only 300 to 400 of these tigers are known to now exist in their natural environments.

“We are in the process of introducing the tigers to each other and Baikal is settling in to his new home,” said Tim Sinclair-Smith, Curator for Eurasia.

Baikal was originally born at a Zoo in Philadelphia in May of 2001; his 30-day quarantine time is now fulfilled and has joined three other adult tigers in the Eurasia section of the zoo.
