More than 200 employees at Amherst’s only call centre will be out of a job two weeks before Christmas.

TeleTech Holdings’ executive director of marketing and communications confirmed yesterday the Amherst centre will be closing in December.

“The centre employees will be paid through Jan. 19, but we’re anticipating the last day of operations to be Dec. 11,” said Bob Livingston of TeleTech.

He said the centre, which opened in Amherst in 2005, employees approximately 215 people. Roughly 200 of those positions will be replaced between the company’s other four centres throughout Canada.

Employees in Amherst, said Livingston, will be eligible for those positions. However, he added relocating “is not typically provided.”
