I’m a bus driver and worry about the safety issues of calling out stops. Anytime you have to reach for a microphone, you are adding one more element that may take your eyes and concentration off the road for even a split second.
We have so much to deal with while we are doing the job to begin with. I think it threatens our ability to do our job safely. Our focus should be on driving, not sounding like a tour guide.
As well, when I first started I was calling out stops until I realized many passengers found it annoying. I gladly assist anyone who asks for help in locating a stop and believe that is how it should be.
