Little Pontiac gets tuned and trimmed

Ideally suited to active lifestyles, the 2007 Pontiac Vibe offers a blend of performance, style and substance.

The Pontiac Vibe remains a fun-to-drive crossover vehicle that offers a blend of performance, style and substance. It’s ideally suited to active lifestyles. It carries forward the styling updates and other enhancements introduced with the ‘06 model year. These familial traits, accentuated by a bold, muscular stance, leave no doubt the Vibe is a full member of the Pontiac team.

An integrated roof rack adds to the distinctive wedge appearance that enhances the Vibe’s form and function.

An integrated roof rack adds to the distinctive wedge appearance that enhances the Vibe’s form and function. Short body overhangs coupled with standard 16-inch wheels provide style while optimizing stability and interior space.

The Vibe comes with 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder engine that produces 126 horsepower and uses variable valve timing to reduce fuel consumption and improve performance. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard and a 4-speed automatic is available. The all-wheel drive and GT models have been eliminated for ‘07.

With an excellent combination of quiet riding comfort and stable handling, the Vibe is fitted with vented disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. A tire pressure monitoring system is also available.

StabiliTrak, GM’s advanced electronic stability control system, is also available and works in conjunction with the traction control system to help maintain the driver’s intended path when required by applying a brake force at any corner of the vehicle independent of the driver’s use of the brake pedal.

While the driving position may not suit everyone, five people can be seated comfortably and the Vibe’s contemporary interior continues to provide a combination of comfort and convenience, with standard cloth upholstery or available leather seating surfaces. A folding front passenger seat, along with folding second-row seats, allows a wide variety of passenger/cargo combinations with room for items up to eight feet long.

The front console features a standard 115-volt AC outlet, allowing laptop computers, cellphone chargers, air compressors and other electrical products to be plugged in without adapters. There is also a 12-volt DC outlet on the instrument panel.

The Vibe offers numerous audio/information systems, including a new optional ETR AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback, and a 7-speaker Monsoon sound system with integrated subwoofer and XM Satellite Radio — part of the Vi Special Edition Package, which includes 16- or 17-inch aluminum wheels, polished exhaust tip, premium 7-speaker sound system and XM Satellite Radio.

On the safety front, a large safety cage and crumple zones are augmented by three-point safety belts in all seating positions, dual frontal airbags, LATCH anchors for child safety seats, available head curtain side airbags, child safety door locks, a power window lockout switch, anti-theft system, remote keyless entry and delay-entry interior lighting.

In short, there’s very little been left to chance in the Vibe as a roomy and flexible family hauler at an affordable price tag.
