Canadian diver Despatie says he’s very happy with results at world championship

MONTREAL – Canadian diver Alexandre Despatie said Sunday he’s “very, very happy” with his performance at the world swimming championships in Rome.

The Olympic medallist returned home after winning two bronze medals at the event.

Despatie of Laval, Que., won third place in the men’s three-metre springboard and in the men’s three-metre synchro springboard competition with fellow Canadian Reuben Ross of Regina.

He told the media that he would take two weeks off before preparing for a string of competitions next year.

The 24-year-old is also looking ahead to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

He said he will be ready to compete despite being older than many of his opponents.
