Canadian Idol Top 24: Oliver Pigott

Experience seems to be the name of the game this year, as many of Canadian Idol’s Top 24 contestants have been doing what they love — singing and making music.

Though playing gigs here and there may have its ups and downs, competitors like musician Oliver Pigott, 27, from Toronto, says he felt it was time to take his career to the next level and try something new.

“What I was looking forward to originally I’ve already had and I hope to get more,” says Pigott. “(That) is playing with people from all across the country I wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity to play with and people who have a lot to offer creatively.”

Prior to auditioning for Canadian Idol this year, Pigott called London, U.K., home for a few years while he booked himself a small tour across Britain, playing in clubs and other venues. He’s done a lot of solo work, written many songs and was receiving a good response from fans who came out to watch him perform, he says.

But when he heard about auditions for this year’s season of the popular singing competition, he returned to Toronto to try out with his younger brother Sebastian.

“I feel very connected to this city, obviously, because I grew up here,” he says.

“I have a lot of unique qualities to offer, and I think the amount of time I’ve spent on stage helps out a lot, too,” continues Pigott. “I think of myself as quite good, I don’t want to sound arrogant or anything, but being here just puts things in perspective.”
